With endodontic treatment, anesthesia is used to numb the area. The type of treatment a patient receives depends on the degree of inflammation or infection and the degree of the difficulty of treatment. Root canal or endodontic therapy focuses on removing the pulp and other connective tissue to reduce or eliminate pain, discomfort, inflammation and/or infection in the tooth. If the root canal or endodontic therapy isn’t successful leading to pain or fails to heal, Dr. Vuolo can offer more intense treatment options too that may include refferal to an endodonic specialist. However, this is a rare occurrence. It is important to schedule an appointment if you feel that a tooth that has been treated in the past isn’t healed properly to avoid future problems and/or extractions.
Pulp damage is sometimes caused by trauma, injuries, cracked teeth or severe tooth decay. This makes preventative dental care appointments important to keep. Dr. Vuolo recommends an examination and dental cleaning at least once every six months.
